Touted as the PlayStation’s “first Mini Wheel that rumbles as you drive,” Madcatz Hand Held Racing Wheel combines smooth analog steering and 10 - 15 digital action buttons in an innovative compact design and is endorsed, of course, by Madcatz spokesman and racing legend, Mario Andretti.
While the unit is terribly comfortable with its ergonomic pistol-grip shape and side-mounted, firm and responsive little wheel conveying healthful resistance, button configuration leaves a little to be desired, especially for games that require/demand simultaneous application of throttle and brake and a gear change or three. Still, A great variably-vibrating RC-style wheel/controller for straightforward, balls-out racing games such as NASCAR, FI, Motocross or Superbike – and it’s just a peach with GT Interactive’s Driver – but rally games just aren’t attuned to this particular design.
