Lexmark Z65n Printer

If you have recently set up a home gateway with different computers sharing a single Internet connection, you might also be thinking about sharing a printer over the network too. The Lexmark Z65n might do the trick. It is a high resolution, network-ready, ink-jet printer that has two paper trays for different paper types.

It prints at 4800 x 1200 dots per inch. That means it's really good for printing pictures from your digital camera. And, for an inkjet colour printer, it is also reasonably quick, at least in low-resolution draft mode, printing 15 pages per minute in colour and 21 ppm in black. However, the bad news is a high resolution 8x10 inch colour photo takes a dismal 12 minutes and 30 seconds per page. Still the resulting photo is very impressive. "The quality is worth it," said my brother Simon, who field tested the Z65n. "It is very difficult to distinguish the end result from a print you would get from the photo-finishers."

Clearly this is not the printer for you if you plan to do a large volume of high-quality glossy photos. Still, the Z65n has a lot of things going for it, including some attractive technologies on board. It's "PrecisionSense" mechanism senses the paper in the tray and prints at the correct resolution for the paper type. The printer also has a fast and virtually jam-free paper grabber.

"Overall, it is an impressive printer for less money than you would think," said Simon, after deciding to buy the Z65n. He even recommended it to his pal Jean, who also went out and bought one.
