A relative unknown in the LCD TV market, VisionQuest has turned out a rather remarkable new line of high definition TVs and monitors. In the LVQ-32EF1A "Rembrandt" LCD TV specifically, you get a seriously competitive HDTV at a price verging on cutthroat.

For a scant US$849 or C$999, the Rembrandt sports an HDMI interface along with PC/Mac VGA connection, two HD Component (Y Pb Br), plus standard component and S-video inputs, so ready to jack with just about any AV device, from old fashion analog camcorders to new fangled, cutting-edge PlayStation3s with Blu-ray.

Too, the Rembrandt contains both an NTSC and ATSC tuner (for standard/analog and high-def/digital signals, respectively) through a single coaxial input, which means it's "HD-enabled" -- not just "HD-ready" -- and can receive and display high definition television as broadcast over the air, without a separate set-top cable or satellite box (though those are recommended if you want many more channels).

The 32-inch Rembrandt features display capabilities 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i (1080p available in May) in 16.7 million colors, a solid 1200:1 contrast ratio, and a respectably spiffy 8ms response time. In layman's terms, that equates to a superbly pleasurable viewing experience of the crisp clean kind, no smudgy blur even in fast action movies or high octane videogames.

On top of all that, and unlike many competing products, the LVQ-32EF1A Rembrandt looks drop dead sexy. Well, as sexy as a rectangle can be, but its all-black, glossy finish and subtle curves on an otherwise squat-box shape give the Rembrandt a decided stylishness. If a TV set could ever be considered reminiscent of a Steinway, this is it.

The only real downside to the VisionQuest LVQ-32EF1A Rembrandt LCD TV is that it's hard to find, currently available at CE boutiques and home theater specialty stores across the continent, you'll have to hit www.visionquestce.com to locate a dealer near you and see if you can't go see a Rembrandt for yourself.
