Radio Fences

Canine got a bit of the old wanderlust? Is the bitch a digger? Chain link won't hold her? Consider Radio Fences, high tech solutions designed to quash your four-legged friend's free-roaming spirit.

Fixed and/or portable, these electronic pet containment systems use a powered transmitter, AC and/or DC, which transmits a constant radio signal from one or many stations (or flags) to a receiver on the correlated dog collar, thereby creating a "safe zone" of falsified freedom. If a dog attempts to leave this predetermined area (adjustable from about a 15 feet radius to coverage of several acres, depending on how many flags you use) she receives a warning tone; if she continues, a mild "correction" is given -- an electric shock, which is reportedly "startling but not harmful" (how they got their test subjects to convey this pain level is a mystery).

Each of these instant fence packages also includes a training video. Please watch it.

Also available are Bark Controller Collars ($50 - $100) designed with a sound and vibration sensor and similar deterrents to thwart the incessant yammering of the excessively vocal. Thinking about getting one for my neighbour. Maybe my neighbour's dog, too.
